Guttering in Stirling

Scottish rainfall is what makes guttering in Stirling such a frequent call-out. The Stirling area averages around 1,000mm of rainfall per year, spread over a much higher number of wet days than the UK average, and a single heavy storm can send more water over a standard 100mm half-round gutter than the pipe is rated to carry. Gutters that are even slightly blocked by moss, leaf fall, or grit from roof tiles overflow almost immediately, and that water ends up running down walls, saturating the ground around the foundations, and pooling at the base of the building.

The fascia is the timber or uPVC board behind the gutter that the brackets attach to, and the soffit is the horizontal board underneath, closing the gap between the top of the wall and the edge of the roof. Good gutter work is precision work. We set every gutter run to a minimum 1 in 600 fall toward the downpipe outlet so water runs freely, fix brackets at 800mm centres (closer on long runs or where snow load is a factor), and install expansion joints every 4 metres on uPVC systems to accommodate temperature movement.
